The Coordinator Public Realm and Urban Design will lead the creation of a multi-disciplinary design hub responsible for strengthening the design culture of the organisation. Leading exceptional urban design and public realm outcomes in a newly invigorated Department, this exciting role will drive exemplary urban design outcomes for growth and established urban areas, public realm and park design, and deliver a large new works program.
This role will work at the Strategic Design principle level with policy development, structure plans, activity centre plans and also at the detailed design level with the implementation of streetscape and open space (public realm) projects.
Leading a Business Unit with a specialist team of professionals in the fields of urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, and project management, the role will be responsible for ensuring that best practice urban design principles underpin the use and development of land within the municipality, through to planning and design of the city’s built form and public realm.
As Councils urban design champion you will imbed the importance of urban design across the organisation. You will have proven ability to champion the cause of Urban Design and its critical importance in achieving positive impacts on the public realm. You have a proven track record of management of, and involvement in, major multi-disciplinary design projects, including the planning, design and delivery of public realm projects from a government perspective.
As an experienced leader you will coach and develop teams within a culture of collaboration. You have established performance to influence developers, State Government Agencies and other stakeholders responsible for the delivery of projects to affect optimal urban design and public realm outcomes. You have advanced problem solving skills and the capacity to communicate complex concepts using high-level presentation and facilitation skills.
